The M.A. Geography programme at CES’s Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts & Science (Autonomous), Margao, Goa, aims to develop self-assured and skilled geographers equipped to address contemporary environmental, urban, and spatial challenges. The programme combines strong theoretical foundations with applied learning, fostering critical thinking, spatial analysis, and research competence.

Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the curriculum adopts an interdisciplinary and flexible approach, with a strong emphasis on research-oriented learning and skill upscaling. Students receive hands-on training in geospatial technologies, cartography, field techniques, quantitative methods, and digital tools, enhancing employability across academic, research, planning, and professional domains.

Structured across four semesters, the programme offers a balanced mix of core courses, electives, research papers, and experiential components. Key areas of study include Remote Sensing, GIS, Urban Geography, Disaster Management, Climate Change, Environmental Studies, and Digital Cartography, culminating in a Dissertation or Internship that provides real-world research or industry exposure. The programme prepares graduates for higher studies, civil services, research, teaching, tourism related and geospatial careers.

Develop expertise in advanced geographical techniques, including Remote Sensing, GIS, Digital Cartography, and Field Survey Methods, enabling them to analyze and interpret spatial data for research, policy-making, and practical applications in environmental management, disaster mitigation, and regional planning.

Acquire the ability to critically evaluate and apply geographic theories and case studies in varied domains of geographical knowledge through hands-on research, fieldwork, and a dissertation/internship. Thus, developing adaptability and resilience to address contemporary global challenges and contribute towards sustainable development.
