BIO

Asst. Professor Andrew Barreto is an educator, learner, and academic event manager… many-a-times not in that order. He specializes in curricular approaches that focus on student learning through developing their digital, personal, and collaborative skills. Coffee drinker, night-owl, and education technologist, he has been in the field of education since 2006. He started out as English Verbal skills Instructor, and Professional exam trainer (CAT/XAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS), moving upward to Centre Manager for a private firm – Institute of Management Studies, before joining his alma mater (Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science – Autonomous) as an Assistant Professor. He has also taught at his post-graduate alma mater – Goa University. As part of his profile as an educator, he has been invited by various high schools, higher secondary schools, colleges, and other institutes to speak, and organize workshops as part of FDPs & SDPs. He is a certified Master trainer on Blended Learning, ePortfolio Building and Flipped Learning. His most recent feather in his cap  – He is the founder of The Goa Poetry Crawl – the first of its kind in Goa, which recently had its first open session celebrating Women’s Day 2024 with a poetry crawl around the Margao Monte hill.

He graduated from Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Goa, with a gold medal entering Goa University and post-graduating at the top of the class – a record, as he was the first male to top the English Literature programme since its inception. He was NET certified in 2012, and currently, is a permanent faculty at Chowgule College – Autonomous. He was given charge of his institute’s Centre for Teaching Learning and was its Co-Coordinator for a tenure of two years. He also advocates for ePortfolio building, and non-traditional evaluation systems and strategies. He has attended a number of week-long trainings in Teaching-Learning processes and curricula.  He has developed the curriculum for the only Comics Studies course taught at the undergraduate English Literature programme in India during the years of 2016 – 2023 – Visual Literature , as well as the first English Language and Literature Teaching at the UG English programme level in Goa. His Writing for the Media course was included in the Goa University affiliated colleges syllabi as well. Apart from this, he was integral in starting the only other MA English programme (other than GU) to be successfully running from 2018 onwads and was its coordinator till 2022. Within the English PG programmes in Goa he has created the only MA programme with unique courses like Visual Literature, and English Language and Literature Teaching.

As an avid event organizer during his UG, and PG student years, he has continued his love of events by creating many events that have included high schools, higher secondary institutes, colleges, and the university.
