Skill Enhancement Workshops

The Department of French organized a skill-building workshop titled “L’art de la rhétorique et de l’argumentation” for its students, with Asst. Professor Shourya Dalvi from the Discipline of French and Francophone Studies, Goa University, serving as the resource person. The workshop aimed to familiarize students with the fundamentals of rhetoric, particularly in the context of media discourse. It focused on helping students understand the key elements of argumentative texts and encouraged them to apply these concepts while creating and analyzing content. The session provided valuable insights into effective communication, critical thinking, and structured argumentation, thereby strengthening students’ analytical and expressive skills in the French language. The Department of French organized a workshop titled “Mastering Citations with ZOTERO” for its students, conducted by Ms. Gerianne George, alumnus of the Department of French, currently pursuing M.A in French at Goa University. The session aimed to familiarize students with the citation management tool ZOTERO and its application in academic research. The resource person demonstrated how the software can be used to collect, organize, and store research materials efficiently. Students were also introduced to the process of generating in-text citations and bibliographies with ease and accuracy. The workshop proved to be highly beneficial in enhancing students’ research skills and promoting good academic practices, particularly in the preparation of research papers and academic reports. The Department of French organized a workshop titled ‘L’Art de la Traduction et de la Recherche’ conducted by Asst. Professor Kshama Dharwadkar – Discipline of French and Francophone studies, The Shenoi Goembab School of Languages & Literature, Goa University. The objective of the skill building workshop was to introduce the students to basic skills involved in the ‘Art of Translation’ and to inform them about some career prospects in the field of translation. The Department of French organized a workshop titled “Opportunities in the Francophone World and Higher Education in French” conducted by Ms. Risa Cabral. The session aimed to highlight the growing importance of French as an international language and its relevance for Indian students. The resource person discussed the wide range of academic and professional opportunities available in the Francophone world, emphasizing the advantages of combining French with other fields of specialization. The workshop also focused on higher education pathways, international exposure, and networking opportunities through cultural and academic institutions. An interactive session with students and faculty followed, making the workshop informative, engaging, and highly motivating for aspiring learners of French.

14th July – National Day of France

The Department of French organized a cultural event to celebrate Bastille Day, marking France’s National Day. The programme aimed to familiarize students with the historical and cultural significance of the occasion and to encourage a deeper appreciation of French culture through language learning. Students actively participated by presenting interesting and lesser-known facts about France and its cultural heritage, thereby showcasing their language skills and cultural awareness. The event provided a meaningful platform for student engagement and interaction, reinforcing the importance of experiential learning beyond the classroom. Overall, the celebration successfully met its objective of promoting cultural understanding and fostering enthusiasm for French language and culture among the participants. “La Fête Gastronomique” to showcase some of France’s exquisite culinary delights. The Department of French organized a vibrant culinary event to showcase the richness and elegance of French gastronomy. The programme aimed to provide students with an opportunity to explore French culture through its cuisine while encouraging creativity, teamwork, and cultural appreciation. Students presented an impressive display of French dishes, recreating the charm and sophistication of French dining. The culinary celebration served as an engaging cultural experience, strengthening students’ connection with French language and culture beyond the classroom. Educational Excursion to Alliance Française Panjim:  The Department of French organized an educational excursion to the Alliance Francaise, Panjim, with the objective of enhancing students’ exposure to French language, culture, and career opportunities. The visit included an informative session highlighting the importance of French proficiency in a globalised world, along with interactive language-based activities, a quiz and a short film screening to strengthen listening and speaking skills. Students were also introduced to the institution’s academic resources, teaching methods, and cultural initiatives. The excursion provided valuable learning beyond the classroom and helped students gain practical insight into the real-world applications of French studies, making it a meaningful and enriching academic experience.

Induction Programme

The Department of French inaugurated its cultural activities for the academic year 2024–25 with the Induction Programme for freshers titled “Bizutage 2024”, held on 12 July 2024. The programme was designed to extend a warm welcome to the new students and acquaint them with the academic and cultural life of the department. An informative presentation outlining the department’s functioning and activities was delivered for the benefit of the students. The event was further enlivened with music, dance, and games, creating a lively atmosphere and fostering camaraderie. The programme concluded with refreshments and cheerful interaction among the students.
