Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Geology

The Undergraduate Programme in Geology is a multidisciplinary, future-oriented programme designed in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and implemented from the Academic Year 2023–2024.

Overview

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Geology is a three-year undergraduate programme aimed at developing a strong foundation in Earth systems, geological materials, processes, and resources. The programme combines theoretical instruction with laboratory practicals, field-based training, internships, and project work to ensure holistic learning. Core areas include mineralogy, petrology, stratigraphy, structural geology, tectonics, and applied geology.

Special emphasis is placed on geological fieldwork and industry exposure, enabling students to translate classroom knowledge into real-world geological applications. The programme prepares students for higher education, research, and diverse professional roles in the geosciences.

PSO-1: Conceptual Knowledge Building To Deeper Learning

Acquire a solid base of knowledge with respect to conceptual learning which shall help them further strengthen the deeper learning in the science of geology including earth dynamics, mineralogy, petrology, stratigraphy, structural features and tectonics.

Demonstrate pertinent skills and global competencies including problem-solving skills needed to solve diverse geoscience-related problems, communication and analytical skills entailing careful listening, textual analysis, and presenting complex information succinctly, ICT skills, and develop personal skills like working independently and in teams.

Make meticulous observations during field trainings, analyze, and interpret data/information collected using appropriate methods and report accurately the findings of the investigations while relating the conclusions to relevant theories in Geology.

Acquire procedural knowledge imbibed with ethical values, social responsibilities, and insights from the Indian Knowledge System, fostering the development of various professionals in the disciplinary area of Geology, including those engaged in industry, research and development, academics, and government/public service
